Many people think of CPR as a skill that only medical professionals need. While most medical professionals will <\/em>need CPR certification, it’s not just for doctors and nurses. In fact, you’ll need to earn CPR certification for a career in many fields. Who needs CPR certification? Some of them are a bit surprising. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jobs That Require CPR Training<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Many rescuers need to have CPR certification. For example, lifeguards. Lifeguards are rescuers tasked with monitoring people and ensuring their safety near the ocean or pool where they are stationed. As part of the job, lifeguards need to know how to resuscitate drowning victims. A lifeguard will need to earn CPR, AED<\/a>, and first aid certification<\/a> alongside more specialized rescue skills. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firefighters, like many rescuers, need CPR certification. After all, career firefighters will respond to many situations where CPR may be needed. Firefighters respond to a wide variety of emergencies and will have to perform CPR often. Not only do firefighters need to know CPR to help civilians when responding to an emergency, they need to know it in the event that a fellow firefighter requires CPR. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sometimes, police officers need to have CPR certification. Since police are often among the first on the scene of an emergency, it can be a useful skill to have to help save lives. However, not every state or police precinct requires officers to have CPR certification. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

As with police officers, private security guards may also need CPR certification. Security guards are responsible for maintaining people’s safety where they’re employed. Security guards trained in CPR and First aid can help respond to emergencies. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Correctional officers in prisons are not only responsible for keeping order, but for keeping inmates and staff alike safe. It isn’t just prison doctors that use CPR and First Aid, but guards and other staff as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

CPR training is a must for construction workers and utility workers. This is because some worksites can be unsafe<\/a>, and accidents can happen. For example, electricians and construction workers can be at risk of electrocution, whether it’s because of exposed wiring, poorly grounded equipment. When this happens, the victim may need CPR.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Who Else Needs to Know CPR<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Coaches and fitness trainers need to have CPR certification. Coaches and trainers are responsible for creating and overseeing exercise training routines. Sometimes, emergencies can arise during training. As such, they need to be able to use CPR. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Licensed babysitters are in charge of caring for children. Naturally, they need to be CPR and First Aid certified. If you’re an aspiring babysitter who needs CPR certification, you may be among the youngest students to earn certification. Many licensed babysitters are young at 13-15 years old. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flight attendants do more than you might think. They’re required to be CPR certified so they can respond to emergencies while on a plane at 30,000 feet. It’s very important for flight staff to be able to respond to these situations quickly; if they were forced to land to deal with a heart attack victim, they would be too late. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Medical Jobs That Need CPR Certification<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When you think about who needs CPR certification, the first people to come to mind are probably doctors and nurses. Doctors and nurses work to provide medical care in hospital, home or other settings. CPR is just one of many tools doctors and nurses are expected to use. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

EMTs and paramedics are often the first on the scene of a medical emergency. Usually arriving by ambulance, EMTs and paramedics provide critical medical care as soon as they arrive. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dentists, dental hygienists and assistants all need to know CPR. Although it isn’t very common, dental patients with preexisting conditions or other health issues may have an adverse reaction to certain procedures or the anesthetic. In the event that the patient goes into cardiac arrest during a procedure, dentists and assistants are trained to respond to the emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Physical therapists need to be able to perform CPR. They need it because they regularly work with patients who need rehabilitation. Physical therapists work with individuals who are recovering from a wide variety of injuries and illnesses, and are at risk of a cardiac emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like physical therapists, specialized caregivers work with vulnerable individuals. Caregivers work with the disabled and elderly to help them perform daily tasks and administer medication. Caregivers will be able to perform CPR and First Aid<\/a> in an emergency. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

After an accident racing offshore powerboats, Mike was saved by a team of well-trained rescuers with only seconds to spare. Mike helped develop one of the first online learning platforms for the NYS department of labor. He continues to develop new and innovative online tools. This is why the American AED CPR Association has been recognized as a leader in both online and blended classroom training. After years of teaching and performing emergency medical procedures, it was Mike who needed CPR. After an accident racing offshore powerboats, Mike was saved by a team of well-trained rescuers with only seconds to spare.
