Child CPR
Determine Responsiveness, Activate EMS
When you observe a victim, the first thing to do is
determine if the he or she is conscious. To do this simply
shake the victim gently and ask loudly; “Are you okay?”
If no response and you are alone, begin the ABC’s and
perform CPR or Rescue Breathing for one minute if necessary.
After one minute, call 911 and return to your victim as
quickly as possible. If you are not alone have someone else
activate EMS immediately. Single someone out and instruct
him or her to “Call 911. Tell them we have an unconscious
child and come back, do you understand?” If they do not
respond, be sure to send someone else.
